Cell wall analysis of oral filamentous bacteria.
نویسنده
چکیده
The cell wall compositions of 41 strains of oral filamentous bacteria belonging to the genera Fusobacterium, Leptotrichia and Bacterionema were examined by paper chromatography. Leptotrichia walls showed principally alanine, glutamic acid, DAP, glycine and aspartic acid. The genus Bacterionema had the same amino acids but aspartic acid appeared to be a minor component and was not detected in the mucopeptide fraction of the cell walls. The strains of Fusobacterium gave an amino acid pattern characteristic of Gram-negative bacteria; however, lysine was a major component in the mucopeptide. The genus Leptotriclzia is thus distinct from the other two genera and should include two species, Leptotrichia buccalis and another organism termed ‘Anaerobic filaments ’.

Ultrastructure of an anaerobic filamentous oral micro-organism.
Thin sections of an anaerobic filamentous oral organism possibly related to Leptotrichia buccalis have been examined in the electron microscope. The organism exhibited a cell wall profile characteristic of Gram-negative bacteria, viz. a solid membrane and an outer double-layered membrane. The outer membrane could be removed by treating intact cells with trypsin or phenolwater. The organism cont...
متن کاملThe profile of pathogenic bacteria isolated from dental plaque-induced gingivitis
Gingivitis is an inflammatory destructive disease mainly caused by microbial plaques. Gram-positive and gram-negative bacilli or cocci have been isolated from dental plaque and gingivitis. This study was going to isolate and characterize the pathogenic bacteria from gingival of 100 patients with oral gingivitis. Enriched and specific media used for isolation of bacteria. Identification of isola...

متن کاملIn Vitro Binding Potentials of Bentonite, Yeast Cell Wall and Lactic Acid Bacteria for Aflatoxin B1 and Ochratoxin A
Background: This study intended to assess individual and combined adsorption potentials of three adsorbents (processed bentonite as an inorganic adsorbent, and cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and of the GG strain of Lactobacillus rhamnosus as organic adsorbents) for aflatoxin B1 and ochratoxin A under in vitro conditions. Methods: This study was conducted in Ferdowsi University of Mashh...
متن کاملControl of Cell Shape in Bacteria Helical, Actin-like Filaments in Bacillus subtilis
In the absence of an overt cytoskeleton, the external cell wall of bacteria has traditionally been assumed to be the primary determinant of cell shape. In the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis, two related genes, mreB and mbl, were shown to be required for different aspects of cell morphogenesis. Subcellular localization of the MreB and Mbl proteins revealed that each forms a distinct k...
